Today was a first in Magisterium History. When a guildy leaves a guild or quits or does anything along those lines there is not much to say about it. It is just a strand of pixels and graphic art coupled with code that is no longer seen or no longer seen on a regular basis, and if the guild is big enough, only seen in name. But if a guildy passes away, things are rather different.
Often times it is easy to forget that on the other side of these things we call avatars, toons, characters, etc, there are living breathing people. And often times its not easy to forget at all, but the focus is put elsewhere. Regardless of either numerous views taken, the fact remains that a small portion, or large, whichever, goes into a person's "avatar". The way they think, the way they interact with others, all of it is a look, even RP'ers, into how they themselves function and feel, however small.
Whether good or bad, most of us will never get a chance to have an interaction on that type of level that is so intimate as to encompass all of this. We will perhaps only experience a glimmer of it, and call it a skilled player, or a good raider, or a helpful player. A few will get to know all facets, and for better or worse experience the life of the person on the other side of the Avatar.
As a guild leader, I get a lot of glances, and for the most part they are all rather good ones, that despite all things show that there are living breathing people on the other side of things, good people in many respects. Today, we honored a great person. Many did not know Azeazel as others have, but if they didn't they heard stories. Her plight was an unfortunate one, yet she was very kind and caring despite it. From what I knew of her in guild she was a genuinely kind-hearted person, that was both capable and strong in spirit. She has touched many lives on the more intimate level I mentioned, and I've seen those lives in turn change because of her. I've seen those lives without her influence before, and I see them now after without her. She has left a mark on this guild, and a mark on several people her, and even though that number may not be great, it has a ripple effect.
I believe it is in those ripples, those memories that go on forever, that there lies eternity. They cannot be forgotten cannot be erased and are marked even in the slightest smile, that would not be forthcoming without the experience, or even the careful photograph that wouldn't exist without it. Today, that experience does not end, it continues to ripple and touch the lives of those no matter how remote, streaming from people who physically knew Azeazel, echoing from players who only knew her in passing, and reverberating from those who heard stories about her. That will go on, and it will not be forgotten, and she has made better people out of many by just that act alone.
I would like to make a special thanks to all that helped put a Sand Stone Drake together for Azeazel, and Samina for putting together today's event. Thank you all, and most of all thank you Azeazel; you will be missed.
